Ok, I get it. Coconut oil is one more thing to add to your dog’s food… Don’t fret – I’ve made it easy for you and created a fun and simple BrindleBerry Bone recipe that contains coconut oil, and it’s dairy free too!
Coconut oil is one of nature’s miracles. It’s antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral and can be used topically or ingested. It’s amazing for skin conditions, and can be applied to cuts or wounds as a disinfectant. Coconut oil is a great yeast buster when applied topically, or ingested.
It also helps with digestion, nutrient absorption, and reduces inflammation in the bowel. It helps eliminate parasites both internally and externally AND it’s great for the immune system. Really, I could go on and on and on and on… but instead, let’s make some treats!
Homemade broth is best and has its own long list of amazing health benefits, so go check out my broth recipe and get that on the go first. When shopping for your coconut oil, be sure to choose the virgin or extra virgin varieties. When you choose your coconut milk, ensure coconut milk is the only ingredient and there are no extras added like sugar. And forget those coconut “beverages” in the refrigerator section.
Keep these in the freezer and feed them with meals or as a treat! Serving size will depend on the size of your treats, but it’s recommended that you feed one teaspoon of coconut oil for every 10 pounds of body weight per day. Start with less to avoid loose stools, and work your way up. If you loved this post, or tried the recipe, please share and I would love to hear your comments below!
