My Favourite Way to Stuff a Toppl

I use Toppls for meals and mid-day snacks. Pebbles is really hard to keep weight on because she has to eat smaller meals due to her GERD. I find the XL Toppl is the only stuff-able toy that can fit an entire meal for her.

My “Recipe”

Bottom Layer: I fill the bottom half with freeze-dried treats or freeze-dried food. I like food because it can count towards Pebbles’ daily food portion.

Liquid: I use broth or goat’s milk or kefir to pour over the freeze-dried bits. This makes the food harder to get out of the Toppl after freezing.

Top Layer: I use raw food or canned food for the top layer. If I use raw, I make sure it’s been thawed in the fridge for less than 24 hours in order to make re-freezing safer.

Once the Toppl is stuffed, I freeze it and feed frozen as it takes longer to get the food out of the Toppl that way.

Based on all of the above criteria I give the West Paw Toppl 4.5/5 BrindleBerries!

4.5 Brindleberries

I know the Toppl was created as a food dispensing toy, which is why it has the nesting ability and the hole in the side for treats to fall out. However, I feel like most people use the Toppl as a bowl, rather than a food dispensing toy.

Other companies have attempted to make plugs for the hole, but those products are hard to get your hands on and they’re pricey. Maybe West Paw should make one, or a version of the toy without the hole. That’s the only reason it got the 1/2 BrindleBerry deduction.
